The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban marked the beginning of RY 2015-2016 with supplemental feeding, introduction of basic hygiene and distribution of school supplies to 130 kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils at Upper Carmen Elementary School last July 28, 2015. The supplemental feeding was in itself a fitting activity since Nutrition Month is observed in July in schools nationwide.
The packs of lunch distributed to the schoolchildren was composed of rice, fried chicken, boiled egg, sautéed mixed vegetables, fruit juice and ensaimada.
The Rotarians also distributed packs of a set of hand soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and hand towel and proceeded with the demonstration of basic hygiene, specifically hand washing and dental care.
Capping the activity was the distribution of school supplies, reading materials and drawing books in a set with coloring pens.
The program started with a prayer in a song done by the schoolchildren.
RCEU President Conchitina Borja-Lagonera talks with the schoolchildren, teachers and parents a bit about what Rotary is all about and the purpose of her coming to their school along with about 20 fellow Rotarians for the specific activity.
President Conchitina Borja-Lagonera (upper photo) checks on the schoolchildren lining-up towards the washing area to do proper handwashing the way it was demonstrated to them early on.
As her way of saying “thank you,” this little girl makes a meaningful eye-to-eye contact with President Conchitina as she received her packed lunch quietly.
The rest of the Rotarians helped in the distribution of the goodies to the children.
The schoolchildren beam happily as they received the goodies from the Rotarians. A sight to behold is the one in the upper left photo who preferred to bring his stuff home, including his untouched packed lunch.

The Rotarians pose for a souvenir photo of the event, while some sit with the schoolchildren and engage in little kiddie talk. Past District Governor Bing Juarez is among them.
