GUGMA UG GASA a Community Service Project

GUGMA UG GASA a Community Service Project From your Secretary’s Pen By: Sec. Melanie Rosalind C. Talimio Congratulations Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro EAST URBAN for the well attended community project that kicked off the start of RY 2019-20! The project, GUGMA UG GASA, was chaired by Rtn.Grace Go under the Community Service Program of Dir. Jo Ana Llagas with members Rtn. Bebbot Chiu, PAG Bebotte Chu, and incoming Rtn. Nenette Rebolos. This was in response to the clarion call of DG BANS IBRAHIM to celebrate children’s day in July. What better way to show that RCEU took it to heart than to celebrate it on the first day of the new rotary year? So it was that last Monday, July 1, 2019, 19 ladies led by Pres. Rosalinda Caragos trooped to the Patag Child Development Center. We were greeted by Teacher Mary Annabelle Reyes-Go and the parents, mostly mothers, who were ready with their camera-phones and welcoming smiles. A little bit of history: the child development center used to be a reading center for senior citizens. During RY 2004-05 with PP Inday Uy at the helm of leadership and with the late Joe Nebrao as the District Governor, RCEU constructed the building that now houses the day care center, the first school for around 40 to 50 children aged 4-5 years old. Visiting the school again brought back memories to Rotarians who witnessed the completion of the project as either officers or new members during that time. What a fun day it was for the little ones to receive gifts, hygiene kits, and yummy food on that special day. Donated for the center’s use were a whiteboard, bookshelf, table, television, sound system and pencils which were particularly requested by Teacher Annabelle. Special thanks to Chair Grace, Dir. Joan, and Pres. Linda for the donations. Chair Grace also prepared mouth-watering carrot cupcakes and water to all the Rotarians who attended the project. The children also received beautiful orange tumblers courtesy of PDG Fe Rosales Juarez. Rtn Nenette taught the kids how to wash their hands properly and they did so with gusto. Pres. Linda gave a sentimental and inspirational talk being once a nursery school teacher and owner. PDG Bing also gave a motivational talk and congratulated the committee and thanking everyone who came. Ending the program with a bang, Chair Grace turned over the money to T. Annabelle for the feeding program. Seeing the happy faces of the little ones made it a wonderful and productive Monday morning. Thank you to all the Rotarians who came and showed their support: Pres. Linda Caragos, PDG Bing Fe Rosales Juarez, Dir. Jo Ann Llagas, Chair Grace Go, PAG Bebotte Chu, Rtn. Bebbot Chiu, Rtn. TOTE BAG MAKING LIVELIHOOD PROGRAM

Through the initiative of RCEU Past President, Myrna Mottoomol, we have identified the 30 non working mothers ,members of the Rural Improvement Club, in her area of responsibility as Kagawad of the City of Gingoog. They have been given two heavy duty sewing machines by our club years back, so now, they’ll be able to make use of these farther when VP Imee Van der Born and Rtn Stephanie P Caragos teach them how to make tote bags, which they can sell to augment their family’s income. Actually, we see this as a two pronged project , a community Livelihood program and a great help to our ecology , as Gingoog folks will be using these bags for marketing instead of buying plastic bags . On Aug 20, 2018 ,22 Rotarians, including PDG Manny Along and Assistant Gov. Tina Abalos Hidalgo, traversed the Claveria road , a shorter and faster route in going to Gingoog city and at the same time, enjoyed the scenic view of Mt Sumagaya. It was also a fellowship- bonding trip for the club.At Doalnara Snack Center, they enjoyed buying vegetables, mushrooms and ice cream and had picture taking. Then on to Ceboleg Elementary School to distribute books to Schoolchildren , under the chairmanship of PP Myrna Motoomul. Lunched was sponsored by Pp Myrna and family at Gingoog Highland Resort. The demo of Steph and Imee was done at Santiago Baranggay Hall, Gingoog City. The nanays prepared kakanins for snacks while the Motoomul’s treated us with the famous Gingoog halo-halo and Gingoog pan de sal to bring home. In September the ladies of Gingoog through PP Myrna delivered 62 bags which were all bought by RC Cdo EU members.
