RCEU HOLDS ITS 31st INDUCTION AND TURNOVER CEREMONIES

July 31, 2021, Cagayan de Oro City. It was a memorable night of recognition, learning, and encouragement. The successful 31st Induction and Turnover Ceremonies of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban was done via Zoom. Albeit it being online, more than 60 RCEU members attended along with our dignitaries and guests who graced the occasion. It was a nostalgic moment when IPP Daisy Tiu banged the gavel for the last time to call the induction ceremonies to order. Right after IPP Daisy called the program to order, PE Shirley “Goldie” Serate gave the welcome address, followed by the formal acknowledgment of dignitaries and guests by PAG Rosalind “Linda” Caragos. An outpouring of congratulatory messages was written and heard as IPP Daisy completed her valedictory address. PDG Fe “Bing” Juarez led the Past Presidents in presenting IPP Daisy her leadership award. Messages of support and felicitations were likewise given to our newly inducted President Biema Along as she accepted the charge and the responsibility of leading the officers and club to serve the community with love, compassion, and competence. The new members and officers were filled with so much enthusiasm and understood well the responsibilities and challenges that lay ahead this new Rotary after they were charged by DGN Gilda “Gigi” Go and IPDG Rogelio “Bong” Buot, Jr. Respectively. The resolve to adhere to their commitment was further cemented with the oath of membership and oath of office officiated by PDG Rosalinda “Linda” Deleste and our beloved district Governor John Mark Sarraga. The emphasis for true and genuine servant leadership was given by our keynote speaker The Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator of Zone 10A, PDG Virgilio “Jun” Farcon, Jr. He quoted that a servant leader is someone who puts others ahead of his own agenda, possesses the confidence to serve, initiates service to others, is not position conscious, and serves out of love. What a wonderful reminder for all those present that night. He then connected this and reminded us to live up to our Rotary motto of Service above self and that if we want to lead on the highest level, we should be willing to serve on the lowest. TRF Awardees were given due recognition that night, highlighting the major donors PDG Fe Juarez, PP Lily Lim, and PP Erlinda Go. Added to the Paul Harris Society is Rtn. Ann Aquino, who pledged to continuously donate to the foundation. Congratulations also to the 3 new Paul Harris members Rtn. Visminda Deveza, Rtn. Alex Faburada and Rtn. Bing Dacudao. We know you will soon be counted and added to the list of multiple Paul Harris Fellows in the club which we currently have 12 now, namely CP Ybeth Yu, IPP Daisy Tiu, Rtn. Grace Go, PAG Myra Balandra, PP Ching Ferrer, PP Joy Gan, PP Bing Aton, PP Evita Arvisu, PP Ophie De La Cerna, Rtn. Jennie Mendez and PP Juliette Uy. The sustaining members were also acknowledged and we thank all the members for making the club once again an EREY awardee for the last Rotary Year. Recognition and honors were given to the members who contributed their 3 Ts, Time, Talent, and Treasure during the Rotary year and fellowship ensued after VP Lina Kwong did her closing remarks all the way from New York and President Biema adjourned the event formally. Thanking once again our dear friends and fellow Rotarians for gracing the occasion: 1 DG John Mark and Lady Ching Sarraga 2 IPDG Rogelio “Bong” Buot Jr. 3 PDG Manuel “Manny” Along 4 PDG Rosalinda “Linda” R. Deleste 5 PDG. Virgilio “Jun” Farcon Jr....

Club Fellowship

The invitation to come in pastel colors was not only well received but looked forward to with anticipation. The place at the third floor of the New Dawn Hotel was likewise splashed with pastel colors from the balloons festooned on the walls to pastel table covers. Excitement took over every Rotarian present who enthusiastically joined in common games like Trip to Jerusalem, The Boat is Sinking, Sudden Death, and many more that the Game Master and the committee could think of. New members gamely joined with the older ones thus solidifying the relationships and surely strengthening the club membership. Raffle prizes were in abundance courtesy of some Rotarians from the...

Classification Talk: Rotarian Michelle “Mich” Nocete

Classification talk is a great way for Rotarians to know more about a member’s profession or vocation. By having these talks and quick presentations, we as Rotarians get to understand the line of work and expertise of our members. For our club, we will be holding classification talks every second meeting of the month, which falls on the third Thursday. This year, we kicked off our first classification talk with our newly inducted Rotarian Michelle “Mich” Nocete who holds the classification of Commercial banking. Thank you Mich for sharing your time and passion for your...

Rotary Basics & Last Weekly Meeting for the Rotary Year

June 27, 2019 From Your Secretary’s Pen By: Melanie P. Caragos-Talimio Maison de Bonbon was a hive of activity last Thursday afternoon to early evening with the presence of the ladies from the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro EAST URBAN. The first activity was the board meeting of the new set of officers led by PE Linda Rosalinda Caragos. The meeting focused on projects for the month of July kicking off with a gift-giving and feeding of children beneficiaries on July 1. A good number of members have already committed to attend the service project, PDG Bing Fe Rosales Juarez took the floor by 4pm for the initiation of the club’s prospective members. Armed with a good presentation on Rotary Basics, she was able to engage the 9 soon-to-be-Rotarians on what Rotary is and what it means to be a Rotarian. For current members present, it was also refreshing to listen and be reminded of the organization’s history, it’s purpose and goals, and why they chose to stay in the club and make Rotary their way of life. My warm Welcome to the new members: Ophelia Paano, Pam Navarro-Salon, My Sicat, Alyn Booc, Tina Casiño, Gingging Empedrad, Chaissa Dulguime, Nenette Rebolos, and Mich Nocete ? After the short study, President Joy Lesandra Gan commenced with the last RCEU regular meeting for the RY 2018-19. As she called the meeting to order, I felt a palpable twang of sadness to see the end of a banner year. As emcee and PP Ophelia Dela Cerna called her attention to this, Pres Joy replied that on the contrary, she’s very happy, and the proof of it can be seen on her genuine and winning smile. Congratulations Pres. Joy for bringing the club great honor! Amidst all the buzz, food was overflowing, from different breads and jams, to grapes and imported cheese, to the crispy lechon, to a dessert table of cookies and stuff, no wonder I keep on gaining weight! Thank you to all the food sponsors, and oh yes, thank you Pres. Joy for the early bird awards you prepared. I was one of the lucky winners. ? The new board of officers in action. New Generations Director Stephanie Caragos is busily typing notes while Old generation ladies like me still use the traditional pen and paper ? PE Rosalinda Caragos gives a warm welcome to start the initiation of the prospective members to the wonderful world of Rotary PDG Fe Rosales Juarez on the basics of Rotary PE Linda presenting PDG Bing with a token of appreciation The prospective members with Director for Membership Daisy Tiu, PDG Fe Rosales Juarez. Pres. Linda, and VP Imee van der Born. Rtn. Heidi Grace Mendoza leads the community singing and called on her gang of Rotary Anns of RC CDO with her.
